I've been completely obsessed with spinels this year. Like, can't-stop-thinking-about-them obsessed.
I managed to get my hands on two incredible parcels: one filled with smaller stones just under a carat, and another with some seriously sizeable beauties. Naturally, I couldn't keep them to myself, so I shared a little sneak peek.
Enter Erin.
She reached out to see if she could snag one of the larger spinels and if we could create something magical together. My answer? YESSSSS. Obviously.
And just like that, we got to work.
Something Soft, Something Substantial
Erin knew she wanted a pinky ring. Not a dainty little thing, either. She wanted something sizeable, sculptural, and centered around a giant violet spinel.

After playing with proportions, shapes, and stone combinations, we landed on the most incredible deep violet cushion-cut spinel, framed by two vibrant blue lab sapphire trillions.
Now, I should probably mention that I have another obsession: trillions.

They're easily one of my favorite stone cuts. There's something about those sharp little triangular silhouettes that feels both unexpected and incredibly elegant. I try to sneak them into designs whenever I can, and this was the perfect opportunity.
The contrast between the soft, pillowy cushion and the crisp angles of the trillions? Absolute magic.

Big Ring Energy
One of my favorite things about this design is how substantial it looks without feeling overly heavy.
The ring is crafted in solid 14k gold, with a sculptural split silhouette and a hollowed underside that removes unnecessary weight while keeping all that beautiful volume.

It's bold without being bulky. Soft but architectural. A serious statement that still feels effortless to wear.
And the colors! That moody violet against those electric blue sapphires is a combination I don't think I'll ever get over.

The finished piece is everything I love about custom jewelry. A little unexpected, a little dramatic, and completely personal.
Let's Make Another One
I am absolutely dying to create another version of this ring.
The best part? I still have spinels from those original parcels waiting for their moment. Each stone has its own personality, and I'd love to see where another custom design could take us.

Maybe another violet beauty. Maybe something with a little more pink. Maybe we go completely wild with the side stones.
That's the magic of custom. We start with a stone, an idea, or even just a feeling, and create something entirely your own.

Fine jewelry. Serious stones. Absolutely no reason to play it safe.
